UNC's Marcus Paige has ankle surgery; played with bone spurs last season

North Carolina’s best player is hoping surgery will allow him to finish his college career on a high note.

Junior guard Marcus Paige underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle, UNC announced on Monday. The school says he's expected to resume basketball activities this summer.

Paige entered his junior season as a Sporting News Preseason All-American, but never quite lived up to that billing. His scoring dropped from 17.5 to 14.1 points per game, as he also played through plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

The Marion, Iowa product announced he would return for his senior season following UNC’s loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
