Just when it seemed the Cavaliers could rest easy, the team got hit with another curveball.

LeBron James has decided not to talk to the Cavs about a new deal until the team re-signs Tristan Thompson, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. James and Thompson both have Rich Paul as an agent.

Thompson became a free agent on July 1., and initial reports indicated that he was close to a long-term deal along with Kevin Love. But talks have reportedly broken down since then and the two sides have yet to come to an agreement.

James became a free agent when he opted out of the second year of his contract he signed last summer. James is still expected to re-sign with the team for one year and then sign a longer-term deal next season when the NBA’s salary cap rises significantly.

Thompson averaged 9.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in the 2015 postseason, helping the team make the NBA Finals after Love went down with a separated shoulder.
