Lauren Hill only made five baskets this season, but her impact goes far beyond the basketball court.

The 19-year-old freshman from Division III Mount St. Joseph’s was named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team on Wednesday.

Hill was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given only months to live. Despite that diagnosis, she appeared in four games before she had to stop playing because of poor health.

"This award is being presented to Lauren in recognition of her courage and outstanding leadership," HCAC commissioner Chris Ragsdale said. "Lauren has been a tremendous inspiration and role model for all student-athletes across the country. She has shown through her leadership and dedication how one individual can truly make a difference."

Hill has helped raise more than $1.3 million to research the type of cancer that she is battling.
