JaVale McGee's short stint with the 76ers has come to an end, as USA Today reports the team has agreed to waive the newly acquired center.

McGee was selected 18th overall by the Wizards in the 2008 NBA Draft and traded to the Nuggets in March 2012. After three years in Denver, McGee was dealt to the 76ers on Feb. 19, two days before the trade deadline.

"I don't want to get bought out," McGee told reporters after the trade. "That's not a positive thing. When you think about it, you don't get all of your money when you get bought out.

"So it doesn't make sense why someone would want to get bought out unless they are older — older and they want to go to a contender or something. I'm not that old. I just want to play basketball."

Since McGee was waived before midnight on March 1, he will still be eligible to sign as a free agent with teams that compete in the postseason. In addition, McGee didn't have to surrender any of next season's $12 million salary or what's left of this season's $11.25 million salary.

McGee, 27, has averaged 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in seven seasons. In his six games with the 76ers, he averaged 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.2 minutes.
