Creighton coach Greg McDermott has suspended guard James Milliken indefinitely for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Milliken sat out the first half of Saturday’s 71-67 overtime loss to St. Mary’s after he was late for the team's morning shootaround. But McDermott said Tuesday that it wasn’t one particular incident that led to his suspension.

“It’s a failure to live up to the expectations we have for our program,” McDermott told the  Omaha World-Herald . “That encompasses a lot of things. Until he can prove to me that he can live up to those expectations, he’s not on the team.”

“I think any time guys on your team make poor decisions or don’t prove to be trustworthy over and over again, it’s disappointing,” McDermott said. “He’s been given a fair amount of chances.”

Milliken won’t be allowed to practice, play or travel with the team. A statement from the school said a decision on Milliken's status in the program would be made in January.

A 6-2 redshirt junior, Milliken is averaging 5.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 17.2 minutes per game for the Bluejays (8-3). He transferred to Creighton from Cowley County (KS) Community College.
