For the first time in 40 years, the Golden State Warriors are into the NBA Finals after a 104-90 win over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

Steph Curry had a game-high 26 points for the Warriors as they completed a 4-1 Western Conference finals win.

Awaiting them in the finals are the Cleveland Cavaliers, with the Warriors aiming to win their fourth championship and first since 1975.

Harrison Barnes (24 points) and Klay Thompson (20) were also good contributors.

NBA MVP Curry was seven-of-21 from the field, including three-of-11 from three-point range, while Thompson received a heavy blow to the head during the clash.

Trevor Ariza's knee struck Thompson in the head, drawing blood and causing the 25-year-old dizziness.

Dwight Howard had a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds on a night during which James Harden struggled.

Harden had 13 of his team's 20 turnovers, while he was two-of-11 from the field as part of his 14-point haul.

The Rockets shot at just 35.1 per cent to the Warriors' 40.7, while the teams combined for 38 turnovers at the Oracle Arena.

The Warriors will host game one of the Finals on June 4.
