Defending champions Real - who are meeting Barca in the finals for the third straight year - had been unable to make the most of home-court advantage in the first match of the best-of-five series, as Barca secured a 98-93 triumph.

However, Real coach Pablo Laso, in attendance on crutches due to an Achilles tendon injury, saw his side bounce back this time around at the Palacio de Deportes Comunidad de Madrid.

Shooting guard Fernandez led the way with 17 points in a superb performance, while Sergio Rodriguez, Ioannis Bourousis and Darden Tremmell each provided 12 points in a valuable team effort.

Brad Oleson and captain Juan Navarro put up 17 and 15 points respectively for the visitors, but it proved in vain.

Real were boosted by a run of 13 unanswered points that helped them lead 24-14 by the end of the first quarter, and the 10-point advantage remained in tact by half-time.

Midway through the third quarter that lead had been stretched to 15 points, but a late rally brought the scores back to within seven.

The final quarter of the match proved a high-scoring affair, but every time it looked as though Barca may make inroads into the lead Real always managed to pull clear, outscoring the visitors 29-27 in the fourth.

The series now heads to Barcelona for games three and four on Tuesday and Thursday.
