The 28-year-old has spent two years playing in Greece, but hopes to come out on top when the countries meet in their tournament opener later on Saturday.

And Faye, who will play for AGO Rethymno Aegean next season, knows the Greek side will be well aware of his talents.

"It's going to be a fun game for me," he told FIBA. "I'm going to be playing in Greece for my third year this year.

"I don't really know a lot of guys here, but I know a couple of them and they're very good.

"My ex-coach [Dimitris Priftis] is one of their coaches and my future coach [Thanasis Skourtopoulos] is one of their coaches too.

"So it's going to be fun. They'll know me very well."

Senegal's last World Cup appearance came in Japan in 2006, when the African nation lost all five of their matches in the first round.

But Faye is confident his team can better that showing this time around.

"We're going to try to beat that record and try to go to the [knockout stage]," he added. "We want to prove that Senegal is a basketball nation.

"We have some great players and there's a reason why we're here.

"We have to be third in the African Championship [to qualify], and we want to show that the African Championship is a good competition and that we have good teams in Africa."
