Rockets center Dwight Howard will miss at least two games after an MRI on Thursday revealed edema in his right knee.

The team announced Howard's MRI results late Thursday. The Houston Chronicle later reported Howard would not travel with the Rockets during their upcoming two-game road trip.

Edema is swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in the body's tissues, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The Rockets said they will evaluate Howard's progress in the next few days. He has missed the team's last two games, wins over the Lakers and Mavericks, because of a sprained right ankle. Houston will play in Boston on Friday and Detroit on Saturday before returning home early next week with three off days for Howard to recover.

Howard sat out 11 games earlier this season because of a strain in his right knee. He's averaging 16.3 points, 11 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 32 games.
