Kevin Durant could finally be on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery on a broken foot.

The Oklahoma City Thunder forward was ruled out for the remainder of the season last week with a fracture in his right foot.

He underwent successful bone graft surgery on Tuesday, the third procedure on the same foot in the last year.

The Thunder released a statement updating Durant's condition on Tuesday.

A statement read: "The procedure was performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley with Thunder medical personnel present at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

"Durant will miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season and is expected to return to full basketball activities in the next four to six months."

The 2014 NBA MVP and six-time All-Star had a screw inserted last October to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot. He later underwent another surgery in February in an attempt to alleviate soreness and discomfort caused by the screw.

Following the procedure, Durant was re-evaluated over the subsequent two weeks. He has not played since February 19, missing 36 games after he had sat out just 16 games in the first seven season of his playing career.

Durant, 26, is averaging 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in just 27 games this season.
