Indiana's Devin Davis, who suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was hit by a car on Halloween, won't play this season according to coach Tom Crean.

Crean was on the ESPNU college basketball podcast Monday with Andy Katz and Seth Greenberg. On the podcast he said Davis is attending classes on a part-time basis and hopes he'll be ready by next season.

“He’s got a lot of different things that he’s having to deal with and continuing to build his therapy,” Crean told Katz. “He’s making progress, the doctors say he’s making progress and his attitude is great. There’s certainly no way he’s going to play this year, obviously, but hopefully he’s going to have a full recovery and an even better understanding and maturity to be able to go next year.”

Davis, a sophomore, was struck by an automobile driven by a teammate on Halloween night. Davis' teammate Emmitt Holt dropped him off in a campus parking lot. Holt told police Davis had jumped in front of the vehicle. Police ruled Davis’ action had caused the accident.

Back in December, Crean said there was no timetable for Davis’ return to the court. He returned to IU practice on Jan. 17, but he didn't shoot very much according to Crean. He has been traveling with the team in recent weeks.
