Dellavedova making his mark

The 23-year-old has featured heavily in the Cleveland Cavaliers two most recent matches and has made a great impression on coach Mike Brown.

Dellavedova played a career high 31 minutes against the Wizards on Saturday, before posting another 27 minutes in the return fixture against the same opposition on Wednesday.

It hasn't been at the offensive end of the court where Dellavedova has made his mark - he is averaging just 2.8 points per game - but on defence where the point-guard is getting noticed.

Dellavedova did an excellent defensive job on Wizards guard Bradley Beal in both recent matches and Brown was suitable impressed with his efforts.

“We didn’t compete. We had one guy compete the entire time he was on the floor — Matthew Dellavedova,” Brown said after the Cavs' most recent loss.

“I’m going to find guys who are going to play hard.”

Brown's comments are likely to be good news for Dellavedova and ensure he continues to see added minutes in his first year in the NBA.

The same can't be said for team-mate Anthony Bennett, who is struggling to make much of an impact in his rookie year.

The surprise number one pick has endured trouble returning from a shoulder, appearing out of rhythm and basketball shape to start his NBA career.

He is averaging 1.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in what currently stands as one of the worst-ever starts for a number one pick.
