Clutch Curry inspired Rose's Zurich Classic win

Justin Rose revealed Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry's match-winning performance in game three against the New Orleans Pelicans inspired his successful philosophy at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Rose lifted his first trophy of the year on Sunday, with the Englishman carding 13 birdies and zero bogeys over the weekend in Louisiana.

The 34-year-old claimed he learnt a lot from Curry's performance in New Orleans on Thursday as he helped the Warriors to an NBA play-off series win.

While Curry finished with 40 points, he missed 11 of 18 three-point attempts but did not hide, eventually sinking a clutch three-pointer over Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis to force overtime, before Golden State went on to win 123-119.

Rose had a tough period during the third round of the Zurich Classic, carding six straight pars after starting brilliantly with three consecutive birdies, and at that point he and his caddie Mark Fulcher turned to Curry.

"I started off hot, had gone cold and [Fulcher] said, 'Come on, just remember Steph Curry. He went cold but he kept wanting the ball. He kept shooting threes. He kept believing in himself'," Rose told CBS.

"So that was our mentality and as soon as he said that I had about a 12-footer and I kept visualising it going in.

"Today again we used that analogy and that's what great athletes you look up to do in the big moments - they want the ball and they make big shots and putts."

It was that mentality that saw Rose birdie the final two holes on Sunday to clinch victory.

"I had to bully myself to be aggressive [on the 17th hole]," Rose said.

"It would have been very easy to have bailed out to the right half of the green.

"It was a perfect number for a 5-iron, I had 213 to the pin. It was a great number for me to hit a nice aggressive shot.

"The putt was a cup outside left and I just poured it in.

"It was a beautiful putt."
