Kansas forward Cliff Alexander could be ruled ineligible for the remainder of the season if an NCAA investigation finds one or more of his family received impermissible benefits from an NBA agent, reports Yahoo! Sports.

Alexander was benched the last two Jayhawks games after the school announced it was notified of the possible “NCAA issue.”

Alexander reportedly has not been interviewed by the NCAA and won’t be reinstated until the NCAA decides no rules were broken.

“Our goal is to make sure there is clarity with whatever issue (the NCAA) may have,” Arthur McAfee, a lawyer assisting Alexander, told SI.com. “We’re always confident that whatever information [it is] looking for is in favor of Cliff. These things take time to develop. (It has) procedures (it) must follow, and I think there’s an attempt to do it fairly quickly. We will see here in short order, I hope.”

Alexander, a five-star recruit from Chicago, wasn’t much of a factor in his last three active games playing a total of 27 minutes and scoring just two points. The 6-8 freshman is averaging 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game this season.
