"It's the perfect fit,'' Jacobson told ESPN. "We continue to move ahead with resources that allow us to raise the bar.''

Jacobson's previous contract was a 10-year deal he signed in 2010, after the Panthers defeated Kansas in the NCAA Tournament's Round of 32.

The Panthers were a No. 5 seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, defeating No. 12 Wyoming in the Round of 64 before falling to No. 4 Louisville in the Round of 32.

Jacobson, 44, previously served as an assistant at North Dakota, North Dakota State and Northern Iowa before taking over as the Panthers' head man in 2006. He has led the program to the NCAA Tournament in three of his nine seasons in charge.
