The Perth Wildcats have re-affirmed themselves as one of the NBL title favourites after a crushing 87-55 win over the Townsville Crocodiles at Challenge Stadium on Saturday night.
The Wildcats, who have now set up an enticing top-of-the-table battle with New Zealand, were simply too good for the league’s third-placed side, the Crocs now winless in Perth for almost three years.
Shawn Redhage led the way for the home side with 16 points, while Kevin Lisch (15), Jesse Wagstaff (13) and Luke Nevill 11 were valuable contributors.
Jacob Holmes top-scored for the Crocs with 14 points, while Elvin Mims added 10 for the visitors.
The Wildcats set up the win in the latter stages of the first half, as they went on an 11-0 scoring run that had them up by 24 points at the main break.
It was a similar story in the second half as the home side again went on a late scoring spree to eventually extend the margin to 32 points.
The victory extends the Wildcats’ winning run to six matches ahead of the clash with defending champions New Zealand on Thursday, a game which may well determine who ends up as minor premiers.
