Kirk Penney's rich vein of form has earned the New Zealand Breakers guard his second NBL Player of the Week award in the past three weeks.

Penney has been in devastating form over the past month and could have made it a hat-trick of Player of the Week honours, only to be tipped out by Gold Coast's Adam Gibson last week.

But he was back on top of the pile this week after scoring 23 points as well as managing four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the crucial match against Wollongong on Thursday.

Penney's first half, which saw him score 12 points, saw the Breakers establish an eight-point lead at the half and they ran away to win it 88-60, keeping their play-off chances alive.

Penney's Breakers take on Gold Coast and Cairns this week and could end up as high as second if they win both matches.

Erron Maxey of the Gold Coast Blaze just missed out on this week's honours after 19 points and 12 rebounds in the Blaze's upset win over Perth on Friday and 21 points in Saturday's loss to the Hawks.
