The Los Angeles Lakers overcame the absence of Kobe Bryant to record a 101-89 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

The Western Conference-leading Lakers were without Bryant for a second consecutive game because of a sore left ankle, with Pau Gasol leading the way with 21 points.

Ron Artest added 18 points and Lamar Odom 16, while Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 21.

Vince Carter poured in a season-high 48 points as the Orlando Magic claimed a 123-117 win over the New Orleans Hornets.

Dwight Howard added 25 points for the Magic, while the Hornets' leading scorer was Peja Stojakovic with 29.

Jason Terry netted 36 points in the Dallas Mavericks' 127-117 defeat of the Golden State Warriors.
