Andersen traded to Raptors

07/29/2010 03:12:30 AM

Boomer David Andersen was traded by his NBA side the Houston Rockets to join the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday; the same day that he hit the winning basket for Australia to pip China 64-63 in the Stankovic Continental Cup in Lizhou.

Anderson had only signed a multi-year contract with the Rockets less than 12 months prior to his trade, and played 63 games for the side last season, averaging just over 14 minutes of court time per game.

The 211cm centre gives the Raptors sufficient depth, according to Toronto president Bryan Colangelo.

"David is a skilled big that gives us some insurance at the backup centre position," he said.

"He will also bring a veteran presence and savvy to a relatively young team."

Andersen was originally drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 2002, taken with pick 37 and was traded to Houston in July 2009.
