Tigers outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is set to become a free agent next offseason, but would like to sign an extension with his new team, CBS reports.

Cespedes was traded from the Red Sox to the Tigers this offseason for Rick Porcello. He has moved around quite a bit the last two seasons, but seems comfortable in Detroit.

“I think Detroit, in this moment, is one of the best teams in the league,” Cespedes said, translated from Spanish. “I think not only me, but what player wouldn’t want to be on this team? I think I would like to be on this team for a long time.”

The Tigers plan on having Cespedes, 29, hit in the batting cages with Miguel Cabrera during spring training. Cabrera is known for his patience at the plate, something Cespedes has struggled with in recent seasons.

Last season Cespedes batted .260 with 22 home runs and 100 RBIs. He will add another potent bat in the middle of Detroit's lineup.
