The Yankees, all $2.5 billion of them, are no longer the wealthiest professional sports franchise in America.

That distinction — surprise, surprise — belongs to the other team this country loves to hate, the Cowboys, according to the latest Forbes valuations and a comparison put together by Business Insider.

Thanks mostly to the ballooning cash cow that is the NFL, the Cowboys' estimated worth climbed from $2.3 billion in 2013 to its current $3.2 billion figure.

The Yankees' worth also grew between 2013 and 2014 by nine percent, from $2.3 billion to $2.5 billion, but the Cowboys weren't the only franchise to surpass the pinstripes. The Patriots are estimated to be worth around $2.5 million, according to their Forbes valuation, and as many as eight NFL teams are said to be worth at least that much in another report.

In fact, that same report suggests the Cowboys' actual worth might be closer to $5 billion.

For what it's worth, two European soccer clubs — Real Madrid and Barcelona — still hold more value worldwide than any team in America.
