World champion Selby survives scare at Crucible

markselby - CROPPED

Defending champion Mark Selby survived a huge scare in the first round of the 2015 World Snooker Championship on Saturday, beating Crucible debutant Kurt Maflin 10-9.

The 31-year-old Selby, who beat Ronnie O'Sullivan to lift last year's title, is still on track to become the maiden first-time winner of the event to successfully defend their crown.

Selby, who led 6-3 at the end of the opening session, fell behind 9-8 before securing a nervy victory.

Maflin beat former world champion Steve Davis in qualifying.
