Great Britain's Wiggins finished second behind German Tony Martin in last year's World Championship time trial, matching his runner-up effort from two years earlier.
But the 2012 Tour de France winner said he was confident of going one better, ahead of the anticipated 47.1-kilometre time trial in Ponferrada, Spain on Wednesday.
"I'm in better shape than last year," Wiggins told BBC Sport.
"It's quite mountainous and suits me more than Tony. Every year I think this might be the year but you never know. That's why I like it."
Wiggins added the course was tougher than the 57.9km trek from Montecatini to Firenze in Italy in 2013, with the Spanish version featuring two climbs late.
"This year's course is a lot different to last year's, which was long and flat. You have to think more on this course. There's no room for error," said Wiggins.
"You need to have enough in the tank for the end. It's challenging, a true test of the time trial."
Britain team coach Rod Ellingworth echoed Wiggins' own words, claiming the time trial was a two-horse race.
"Brad is in good shape by the looks of it," Ellingworth said.
"He'll do his thing and it will all depend on whether someone else can take it off him. I think there's only one guy who can: Tony Martin.
"And I think if Brad does everything right then he stands every chance. At his best he is as good as Tony Martin on this type of circuit.
"He is fresher as well, with Martin having done a lot of racing this summer. Pacing will be key.
"The climbs come at the back end so if you overwork early on then you will pay for it later. I think it will be close between them."
