Where to next for Jarryd Hayne

MORE: Hayne sacked by the 49ers

Hayne has been placed on a 'waivers' list by the 49ers, with other clubs now having 24 hours to pick him up.

If he clears waivers and doesn't get picked up by another team, he will return to San Franciso's practice squad, where he will again battle it out with the other, more experienced running backs at the club.

Hayne's US agent took to Twitter to explain the process from here for his client:

If Hayne's NFL journey proves to be over he has no shortage of options outside America.

Rugby League

While most clubs have already filled up their 2016 salary caps, with a player of Hayne's calibre they'd certainly be happy to shift a few players around to make room.

The Roosters have been extremely keen on the Hayne Plane since his exit from the Eels, even helping him out with a car upon his return to visit Sydney.

Otherwise, the Eels would be the favourites to once again pick up their favourite son however their horrendous salary cap mess would make that an almost impossible venture.

Super League clubs would also be interested, but Hayne left the NRL for a bigger challenge, a step down to the English competition would be baffling.

Rugby Union

French rugby in particular has a heap of money and would love a player of Hayne's calibre to boost interest in their competition.

Super Rugby could also be an option, in particular the Waratahs, if Hayne was interested in coming home to his family.

The only issue with this option would be transitioning his skills and body type to become an outside back in union.

He'd need to slim down, increase his cardio and most importantly develop a great kicking game, which we haven't seen from him in his career.

Rugby sevens

Hayne's amazing running game could make him a bolter for a Rugby Sevens position.

Once again he'd have to do a lot of work to transition into the sport, but if he wants to continue to chase glory, surely an Olympic Gold medal would be tantalising for him.
