The Eagles are working to restructure their deal with Trent Cole in order to keep the beastly outside linebacker in Philadelphia next season, NJ.com reported Monday.

Philadelphia currently has an estimated $27 million in cap space to spend in free agency. If Cole returns, he will cost the Eagles $11.6 million, the second-highest salary on the team. However, if a deal cannot be reached and Cole is released, the Eagles would save $8.4 million, according to the report.

"I want to do whatever we can to make things work," Cole said. "Hopefully that results in me being here. ... I want to be here. I've been here 10 years, going on my 11th year and want my next stop to be here with the Eagles next year. Time will tell. Things will get done and everyone will be happy."

Cole, 32, was selected by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft and signed a four-year deal. In March 2012, the Cincinnati product signed a four-year extension worth up to $55.25 million, lengthening his contract through the 2017 season.

Cole recorded 52 tackles and 6.5 sacks last season. The 10-year veteran and two-time Pro Bowler ranks second in team history with 85.5 career sacks.
