Kentucky lands 16-year-old New Zealand star in class of 2016

John Calipari and Kentucky continued their dominant recruiting on Sunday by picking up a commitment from Tai Wynyard, a 6-9, 265-pound power forward from New Zealand.

According to Scout , Wynyard committed to Kentucky just 15 days after his official visit to Lexington.

"I committed to Kentucky because I feel like they will push me to my maximum potential, the academic side looked awesome and the facility was great," Wynyard said.

Wynyard chose Kentucky over Texas and Villanova after taking visits to all three schools earlier this month.  

Currently training with the professional New Zealand Breakers U19 team, Wynyard averaged 16 points per game on 67 percent field goal shooting and eight rebounds in the FIBA Oceania U19 Championships . He reportedly has drawn comparisons to another New Zealand native, Thunder center Steven Adams.

He is the first 2016 commitment for Calipari.

His father Jason Wynyard is one of the most decorated competitors in timbersports hsitory and won the STIHL Timbersports Series a record 11 times.
