The off-the-field hits keep coming for Alabama's football program.

Suspended running back Tyren Jones became the third Alabama player to be arrested in four days Tuesday morning when he was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana, AL.com reported.

Alabama dismissed Jones on Tuesday evening.

"Tyren Jones was indefinitely suspended from the football program early in the semester," Alabama coach Nick Saban released in a statement. "He was given an opportunity academically and from a team rules standpoint, but he failed to do any of the things necessary to comply with the rules of the Alabama football program. He was dismissed from the team when he refused to follow the parameters given to him for reinstatement."

Jones was stopped for speeding on 10th Avenue in Tuscaloosa, Ala., when officers found marijuana and digital scales belonging to 25-year-old Brandon Lee Hansberry, who also was arrested.

Two unidentified passengers also were in the car but neither were charged. Jones later was released on $1,000 bond. Hansberry was charged with a felony first-degree marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on $20,000 bond.

Jones was suspended Feb. 10 for “conduct not to the standard of the Alabama football program.” He also served a one-game suspension for unspecified reasons last October.

Last Friday, cornerback Geno Smith was arrested on charges of driving under the influence for a second time. The next day, transfer defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and criminal mischief, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the team. He previously was dismissed at Georgia.

Jones, 20, was a 4-star prospect and U.S. Army All-American prior to arriving in Alabama. He ran for 224 yards on 36 carries last season.
