Smith bullish over future

Already struggling in the National Football Conference, Smith's job was brought into further question after the Falcons threw away a 21-point lead as they lost 22-21 to the Detroit Lions at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.

Atlanta's capitulation extended their losing streak to five games but Smith - at the helm since 2008 - is not worried about getting cut by owner Arthur Blank.

"We're going to do what we've done for the last six-plus years and prepare each and every week like we know how to do it," Smith told reporters on Monday.

"And I'm going to continue to do that until Mr Blank tells me otherwise.''

Smith added: "I haven't done a good enough job, plain and simple. Because ultimately it's my responsibility.

"So I haven't done the job that I need to do. I've let down the players, the coaches, and the fans thus far.

"But I think what we plan on doing, we plan on getting hot and making a really good second half of this season.''
