Michael Bennett says Seahawks have best defense ever

The Seahawks defense has allowed 33 points in its last five games, but does that make it the best ever? Michael Bennett thinks so.

Seattle trounced the Arizona, 35-6, Sunday night and held Arizona to just 216 yards of offense, albeit against third-string quarterback Ryan Lindley.

"We're the best defense to ever play football, so when we play the way we play, the way we're capable of playing, whatever (Lindley) did didn't really matter," Bennett told reporters after Sunday's win.

The defense led Seattle to a Super Bowl title last season, and Bennett thinks it can do it again this year. The Seahawks are allowing 16.5 points per game in 2014.

"When we line up and play the way we are capable of playing, I don't think anybody can play with us,” Bennett said.

As well as the Seahawks' defense is playing, the 33 points in a five-game span is only the third fewest in the last decade. The 2006 Broncos held opponents to 26 points in a five-game span and the 2005 Colts allowed 29.

Is the Seahawks’ defense stout? Sure. But the best ever? The 1976 Steel Curtain (9.9 points allowed per game), 1985 Bears (12.4), 2000 Ravens (10.3) and even the 2013 Seahawks (14.4) may have something to say about that.
