In a joint news conference with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll joked and answered media questions two days before Super Bowl XLIX.
One hot topic was Richard Sherman, who is not only dealing with an injured elbow, but the impending arrival of his son with girlfriend Ashley Moss.
"That's up to Richard," Carroll said. "He knows it would be an opportunity to face a big decision. Whenever our players have a personal issue, it's always about family first. However it goes, we'll support him. And I can't wait to see little Petey."
Sherman, however, is confident that his son will wait a little bit before he makes his arrival into the world.
"I think he's going to be a disciplined young man and stay in there until after the game," Sherman said on Thursday. "He's going to do his father his first favour and stay in there for another week or two."
When asked if his son doesn't stay disciplined and arrives on Sunday, Sherman said, "I'm focused on the game. He's not supposed to come on Sunday. If he does, that would change some things. I've thought about the possibility of his coming during the game or coming before the game.
"We have things in place in case that happens. We'll cross that bridge when we get there. But I didn't know it was a topic of national debate, honestly. I would not like to miss the birth of my first kid, but hopefully and God willing, we won't have to cross that bridge."
Carroll also addressed how he has grown as an NFL coach since being fired from both the Patriots and the Jets.
"I did spend three really good years in New England," Carroll said. "I had a great time while I was there.
"Probably the thing I take away from it the most is the spirit of the fans and the following, and how sincere they are and how much they want to do well and how much they let you know when you don't.
"Bill hasn't had to feel much of that because they've done so well through the years, but I got to feel both ends of it pretty quickly in my three years.
"I got pounded a couple times," Carroll added. "I got fired a couple times in the league, and I know everybody likes to have fun with that. My therapist tells me I should always talk about it, bring it up and make sure I don't hide from it."
Carroll also made sure to compliment Belichick, stating that the Patriots made, "one of the great moves in the history of the NFL."
