Ryan Zimmerman has managed the pain from a foot injury, at least until a game Thursday against the Cardinals. Throughout the game, it became obvious something was wrong with the Nationals' infielder.

Afterward, Nationals manager Matt Williams disclosed that Zimmerman suffers from plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

“He was gimpy,” Williams said, via the Washington Post. “The ball down in the corner [that fourth inning single], generally he goes for two there but he went to turn the base and felt it. He’s been dealing with it for a little while.”

Zimmerman said he has never dealt with plantar fasciitis before, and that he started noticing pain in his foot last week. It felt particularly painful Thursday morning.

“I wasn’t moving around that well, but still able to play,” Zimmerman said. “I feel fine at the plate. It’s just, obviously, running the bases today wasn’t that great. But we’ll just treat it and try to keep it under control until it can go away.”

“I’ve never really dealt with it, but from what I hear some days will be better than others. Just treat it and do what you can, and we’ll go from there.”

Williams said Zimmerman, who is batting just .226 but leads the team with 12 RBIs, will soon have a day off so he can let his foot rest but no mention was made of a possible DL stint.
