The 22-year-old German, who won in Glasgow last month, set his stall out in the first round at the Letzigrund Stadium and his rivals were unable to respond.

Rohler's huge first-round throw, at a venue where he finished 12th on his last visit, was enough to take the $40,000 first prize as Commonwealth Games silver medallist Keshorn Walcott (85.77m) was second on the night and Tero Pitkamaki (85.12m) third.

Christian Taylor was also able to celebrate Diamond Race success on Thursday, as he won the triple jump in the final round.

The Olympic champion from the United States picked a great time to leap a season's best 17.51m, which took him from third to first place and watched on as Will Claye (17.39m) and Benjamin Compaore (17.45m) failed to better that jump.

David Rudisha needed a victory to seal the 800m title, but the Olympic champion could only finish third as Nijel Amos of Botswana powered to the front 60 metres from the line and stayed there to take the victory ahead of 1500m champion Ayanleh Souleiman in a time of one minute 43.77 seconds.

Kenya's Caleb Ndiku held off a late charge from Ethiopia's Muktar Edris to win the 5000m in a time of 13:07.01, with American Galen Rupp third.

Veronica Campbell-Brown was crowned Diamond Race winner in the women's 100m after the Jamaican and Murielle Ahoure clocked the same time of 11.04secs, but Campbell-Brown was given the verdict as she was given a time of 11.032secs and Ahoure 11.034secs.

Panama's Alonso Edward claimed the women's 200m Diamond Race as she came home in a time of 19.95secs to win on the night and take home the prize money.

Dawn Harper Nelson was also able to celebrate being crowned Diamond Race champion as she gave another 100m hurdles exhibition to win in 12.58secs, with her rival Queen Harrison suffering a dramatic fall but walking away unhurt.

Kemar Bailey-Cole clocked a season's best 9.96secs to win the 100m ahead of Diamond League leader Michael Rodgers, with Usain Bolt not competing after bringing his campaign to an end.

South Africa's Cornel Fredericks won the men's 400m hurdles with a blistering finish, while second place was enough for Michael Tinsley to win the Diamond Race.

Ethiopia's Hiwot Ayalaw was also confirmed as a Diamond Race-winner in Zurich, as she finished second in a 3000m steeplechase race which was won by Habiba Ghribi of Tunisia.
