Lions' Rodney Austin released after assault charges

The Lions announced Tuesday that the team released offensive guard Rodney Austin following his arrest in Charlotte, N.C. on assault charges against a female and a child. 

Booking records show Austin was booked at 2:17 a.m. Friday on charges of assault against a female, assault on a child under 12, interference with emergency communication and misdemeanor larceny.

Austin was released Friday afternoon on $2,250 bond.

Austin, 26, was mainly a practice squad member of the Lions after being signed as a undrafted free agent in 2012 out of Elon. He saw action in just one game in 2013 and none in 2014.
