'Relieved' Lee grateful for swift return

After being told he can return to action on May 1 following a doping violation, Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei has spoken of his deep sense of relief.

Lee was hit with an eight-month ban, but the backdated suspension means he is free to play from Friday.

The former world number one was suspended by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) doping hearing panel after an adverse analytical finding from a sample taken at last year's BWF World Championship.

Lee argued that the Dexamethasone found in his system had been taken inadvertently, while the BWF decided that Lee had been "negligent".

"God answered my prayers," Lee wrote on his official Facebook page.

"I will be back [on the] court in four more days. My family and I have all of you, friends and media, to thank.

"But most importantly, I want to send my heartfelt gratitude to Khairy Jamaluddin [the Malaysian Sports Minister] as well as [the] Badminton Association of Malaysia for standing by me, and making sure that I was given a fair trial throughout the hearing.

"Words cannot describe how relieved I am."
