Red Wings rally past Caps

Washington led heading into the third period after an Evgeny Kuznetsov powerplay goal and a Troy Brouwer strike had cancelled out Gustav Nyquist's opener for Detroit.

But Justin Abdelkader, who earned an assist for Nyquist's goal, took charge of the contest, scoring twice in little over six minutes in the third period to give the Red Wings the lead.

And Pavel Datsyuk sealed the win on a powerplay inside the final minute, as the Capitals fell to consecutive losses.

Salt in Washington's wounds was the continuation of Alex Ovechkin's form, the star without a goal or assist in five matches - his longest run without a hand in a score in his career.

Craig Smith struck twice as the Predators outplayed the Edmonton Oilers 4-1.

Smith broke the deadlock in the seventh minute of the middle period, before team-mate Taylor Beck doubled their lead moments later.

Shea Weber made it 3-0 early in the final period, before Taylor Hall saw the Oilers avoid a shutout loss.

Smith's second four minutes later though, sealed a comprehensive win for Nashville, who moved three points clear top of the Western Conference's Central division.
