World Ski Championship giant slalom silver medallist Viktoria Rebensburg will miss the rest of the FIS World Cup campaign after suffering a knee injury.

The German finished just over a second behind eventual winner Anna Fenninger in Beaver Creek last month, adding to her three World Cup podiums this season.

But, during training ahead of this weekend's races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Rebensburg tore ligaments in her left knee, and as a result will miss the remainder of the campaign.

"I fell and slipped into the next gate," said the 25-year-old. "The ski was caught in the gate and it twisted my knee.

"This is, of course, very disappointing as it happened just before the home races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

"On the other hand, it could have been worse. I’m forced to take a break now and I will then focus on rehabilitation and preparation for the next season."
