Patriots Super Bowl report: Just another day for Bill Belichick

If anyone was expecting New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to treat the week leading up to the Super Bowl like a big deal, they will be gravely disappointed.

When asked on Thursday how practice was going this week, Belichick gave an answer that typified his character.

"From a practice standpoint, we're probably at the typical midweek point in practice," he said. "Worked on some things yesterday, we'll come back and work on some more things today."

Even more consistent than Belichick's riveting answers at the podium are his routines throughout the week.

"We're all creatures of habit, we have a routine, we know where – I think coaches, players all know where we need to be Saturday morning in our preparations, Saturday afternoon in our preparations, Saturday night in our preparation, Sunday morning in our preparation," Belichick said when asked what the day before the Super Bowl is like.

"The day before the game is kind of as much as we can make it a normal day before the game. We've done that for the entire season and I don’t think that this game would be the time to all of a sudden come up with some new, creative, innovative schedule."

Patriots players understand that Belichick's rigid habits are what made him one of the most successful coaches in NFL history.

"You know what you're going to get from him each week," Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork said.

"You're going to get his best and he expects our best and I think that is the one thing that makes him so special because he's been so consistent. He's a hell of a coach. I'm glad I'm playing for him."

Arguably Belichick's most famous slogan, "Do your job", is what resonates heavily with Wilfork and the rest of the team each week.

"I think that comes along with eliminating any distractions, eliminating any noise that is being talked about," Wilfork said.

"And our job is to eliminate that, so I think when we do that and we say that, I think everybody kind of looks at it together as, 'We're here for our job, we're here to do our job and the only way to do our job is we have to be focused in at the task in hand and that's to prepare for the Seahawks'.

"So I think it's more important for us now to just fall back on our words and do your job and if we do our job, we'll be in a good spot."

Belichick's job this week has been preparing for the defending Super Bowl champions in hopes of hoisting his fourth Lombardi Trophy, but again, it is just another week of watching film.

"That's the way it usually goes during the week and this week's probably not going to be any different than any other one in regards to that," Belichick said.

Carry on, Bill.
