Ahead of next year's Rio Games, the route for the Olympic torch has been revealed, with the flame to be carried 20,000 kilometres and through all 26 of Brazil's states.
With the first details of the route revealed on Thursday, organisers said the plan was to involve as much of the country as possible.
The progress of preparations for the Games as well as the affordability of tickets have been much-discussed issues in the build-up, for a country that also hosted the FIFA World Cup last year.
However, organisers have always voiced their determination to make the Games an event for all in the country.
"Upon being awarded the right to host the 2016 Olympic Games, we promised to involve the entire country, thereby ensuring it would be an event made by Brazilians, for Brazilians and with a Brazilian spirit for the world to enjoy,” said Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman.
"To stage the Olympic torch relay across the whole country is to fulfil that promise and give millions the chance to participate in an unforgettable celebration."
The flame will be carried by around 10,000 torchbearers through 250 of Brazil's cities and towns.
