One unlucky fan left a Japanese baseball game with an unexpected souvenir.

A woman who was hit in the face by a foul ball at the Sapporo Dome in 2010 was awarded $350,000 in damages from the Nippon Ham Fighters on Thursday, according to Kyodo News via The Associated Press.

The woman, who is in her 30s, lost sight in her right eye after being struck by the ball.

Kyodo News reported Sapporo district court judge Yasuhiro Hasegawa ruled in the woman's favor, though the Fighters are contemplating an appeal on the basis that there are a number of safeguards to protect the attending fans.

Similar lawsuits haven't gained much traction in the U.S., where Major League Baseball routinely warns fans that they are assuming the risk of injury from balls and bats that might enter the stands.

Still, such law suits aren't universally dismissed, either. Last year, a Georgia appeals court declined to dismiss a lawsuit against the Braves filed by the family of a 6-year-old girl whose skull was fractured in 30 places when she was hit in the forehead by a foul ball.
