The Blue Jackets and Cam Atkinson waited until the last minute, but the two sides eventually agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension about an hour before Monday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.

The deal is worth a total $10.5 million, with an annual salary-cap hit of $3.5 million.

Atkinson, 25, was set to become a restricted free agent after the season. He had been the subject of trade rumors leading into the weekend as the two sides were at odds over the details of the contract extension.

The winger has been one of the Blue Jackets' top scorers in his second full season, ranking fourth on the team in goals (13) and points (25) in 58 games. He's also averaging a career-high 17:16 time on ice and is a minus-6.
