It's now known that Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara played the final three games of the regular season with a fractured leg after the Bruins announced Tuesday he suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left fibula. Chara will not need surgery, the team said.

The Bruins captain was injured April 4 against Toronto after a David Booth shot nailed his upper ankle, but he remained in the starting lineup for the team's final three games of the regular season as the Bruins tried to make the playoffs.

Chara, 38, will need four weeks to recover from the injury and, as a result, will not play for Slovakia in May's IIHF World Championships.

The 6-9 blueliner had 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) and an even plus-minus rating in 63 games this season for Boston after missing the better portion of the first half of the season with a knee ligament injury.
