The NFL on Wednesday handed Greg Hardy a 10-game suspension for 2015 despite the fact his domestic assault case was dismissed in February. The NFLPA is not thrilled.

The union, which plans to appeal the suspension on Hardy's behalf, might also sue the league, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"The NFL has been overturned twice by judges for retroactively applying their conduct policy," the NFLPA said in a statement released Thursday. "Every time the NFL decides to make something up, we are obligated to hold them accountable to the collective bargaining agreement."

The suspension came down after the NFL said a two-month investigation proved Hardy's conduct was "detrimental to the league." Hardy was accused in May 2014 of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder.

Under the personal conduct policy, a player’s first offense is a six-game suspension. Hardy had four instances in which he used excessive force on Holder, according to the league's statement.

The NFLPA says that if the appeal is denied, it will take legal action against the NFL.
