Rick Nash scored twice as the New York Rangers tied their Eastern Conference finals series against the Tampa Bay Lightning courtesy of a resounding 5-1 win.

Nash opened and completed the scoring on the road in game four at Amalie Arena in Tampa, to help square the NHL play-off series at 2-2.

The Lightning assumed control of the post-season matchup after Wednesday's 6-5 overtime win but they were no match for the four-time Stanley Cup champions on Friday.

New York struck first when Nash skated in front of Lightning goalie Ben Bishop before backhanding the puck into the net with less than three minutes remaining in the opening period.

After the Lightning tied the game in the second period on a Steven Stamkos goal, the Rangers responded with two scores just 1:48 apart.

Chris Kreider's wrister with 4:44 remaining in the second helped the Rangers regain their lead and the New York franchise took a 3-1 lead when Keith Yandle's slap shot deflected off the left of Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman and bounced past Bishop.

The Rangers put the result beyond doubt in the final period via Martin St Louis' first goal of the play-offs and Nash's second of the game at the 11:33 mark.

Game five is in New York on Sunday.
