Any Browns quarterback has to deal with the unpleasant history attached to those under center in Cleveland. As for newly-acquired Josh McCown, he has the Johnny Manziel factor to deal with as well.

After signing a three-year deal with the Browns on Thursday, McCown said he wants to bring his knowledge and experiences to the locker room, Manziel included.

"Just life in general is too short to go through it alone or just looking out for yourself all the time," McCown said, via ESPN.com. "So if you can give up yourself to others to help someone else in their journey, I just think you'll find so much more peace in life. So that's my approach when I head into a quarterback room. It's just what can I give back to the guys around me to help us be better? Because ultimately it's going to help our team.

"Johnny is a person, and every person that I come across has value to me, and they matter. So I want to help him as much as I can with all parts of it, but to grow as a person and as a player and to help him go on and have a fruitful career."

McCown, 35, was 1-10 as a starter last year with the Buccaneers throwing for 2,206 yards and 11 touchdowns. The journeyman will serve as QB insurance for the Browns this year if Manziel can’t turn around his habits on and off the field.

As if being a quarterback in Cleveland wasn't hard enough, imagine being a mentor to Johnny Football at the same time.

"I just want to serve our team and help everybody in that locker room, do my best to help everybody in the locker room be better at their job and they're going to help me, too. It's a two-way street," McCown said. "I'm just excited about coming in and being a part of a team.”
