The College of Charleston and Louisiana-Lafayette both had dramatic ninth-inning victories on the first day of the NCAA baseball tournament.

Louisiana scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to upset No. 2 seed Rice in Houston. They were not the only teams to win in their final at-bats with Florida State and Oklahoma State both recording walk-off winners.

NCAA TOURNAMENT 2015: Top 5 plays from Day 1

The biggest upsets of the day were No. 1 seeds UC-Santa Barbara and Dallas Baptist losing their respective openers. Mercer also came close to pulling off an upset of a top seed and there were several minor upsets with No. 2 seeds Rice, East Carolina, Bradley, Radford, Coastal Carolina, USC and Florida Atlantic losing on Friday. Those teams are not yet finished in the double-elimination format.

The Big Ten, which isn't exactly considered a baseball power conference, went a perfect 5-0 on Friday.

Listed below are recaps of each of the 16 four-team regionals.

Los Angeles Regional

The No. 1 overall seed UCLA Bruins were 7-2 victors over CSU Bakersfield in Friday's final game. The Bruins (43-14) fell behind early, but scored at least one run in six consecutive innings from the third through the eighth. The Roadrunners (36-23-1) didn't make it easy for UCLA, which also committed a pair of errors.

The first game in L.A. saw the third-seeded Maryland Terrapins (40-21) complete the Big Ten's perfect day with a 3-1 win over No. 2 Mississippi (30-27). The Terps scored twice in the first on consecutive RBI doubles from Brandon Lowe and Kevin Martir.

Lake Elsinore Regional

No. 1 seed UC-Santa Barbara (40-16-1) was upset by San Diego State at Diamond Stadium, the home of the Padres' High-A affiliated Lake Elsinore Storm. The Aztecs (40-22) led 3-1 after two innings before the Gauchos tied it in the fifth. But SDSU's Steven Pallares stole home in the eighth inning to give the Aztecs the win.

No. 3 Virginia (35-22) and second-seeded USC (37-20) were scoreless until the seventh when the Cavaliers scored twice. Virginia added another run in the eighth before sealing it with another three runs in the top of the ninth of the 6-1 victory.

Stillwater Regional

Playing at their home stadium, the top-seeded Cowboys (38-18) got pushed by No. 4 St. John's (39-15), but escaped with a 5-4 victory. The Red Storm scored in the top of the ninth before Oklahoma State got a walk-off winner on Tim Arakawa's RBI single.

In Friday's first game at the site, Arkansas (36-22) held off Oral Roberts (41-15) for an 8-6 win. The Golden Eagles trailed 8-3 entering the ninth inning and scored three times before Arkansas ended the rally. Anthony Sequeira capped a 3-for-4 day with a three-run homer in the ninth. Arkansas did not hit a home run, but got a triple from first baseman Clark Eagan and doubles from Andrew Benintendi, Tyler Spoon and Rick Nomura.

Springfield Regional

The top-seeded Missouri State Bears (45-10) were made the eighth overall seed, but have to wait until Saturday afternoon to play No. 4 Canisius (34-28) with Friday's opener rained out.

Before the rain hit southwestern Missouri, No. 3 Oregon (37-24) smacked 10 hits against No. 2 Iowa, but couldn't beat Iowa. The Hawkeyes (40-16) were able to get out of several jams, thanks to a pair of double plays, and earned a 3-1 win. It was Iowa's first NCAA baseball tournament victory since 1972.

Coral Gables Regional

No. 2 East Carolina (40-21) entered the NCAA Tournament on a tear, winning the American Athletic Tournament as part of an eight-game winning streak to close the season. ECU's win streak came to an end on Friday with No. 3 Columbia (31-15) using a five-run sixth inning to earn a 6-3 win over the Pirates.

No. 1 Miami, the No. 6 overall seed, cruised past Florida International 6-2. The Hurricanes (45-14) scored all six runs in the first two innings while Andrew Suarez went seven strong innings against the Golden Panthers (29-30) with five strikeouts and zero walks.

Dallas Regional

Dallas Baptist was the first No. 1 seed to lose, falling 7-2 to No. 4 VCU. The Patriots (42-14) mustered just seven hits against the Rams (38-22) while VCU got three-hit outings from both Daane Berezo and Brett Hileman. DBU was kind of a surprise as a host seed. The Patriots went 4-4 to close the season after a 10-game win streak was snapped by Oklahoma State on May 12.

No. 2 Oregon State (39-16-1) scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead and then held off third-seeded Texas (30-26) for a 5-4 victory. The Longhorns scored two runs in the eighth to tie the game at 4-4, but the Beavers scored in the bottom of the inning on a Kyle Nobach RBI double.

Tallahassee Regional

No. 1 seed and host Florida State got a scare from No. 4 Mercer, but was able to hold on for a 5-4 victory. The game was tied 4-4 after three innings and remained that way until the 10th when Josh Delph's walk-off single scored Ben DeLuzio.

The first game in Tallahassee also ended in walk-off fashion with Roper's solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to give Charleston a 7-6 win over Auburn.

Gainesville Regional

Florida (45-16) is the No. 4 overall seed and the host Gators had the day's biggest win – a 19-0 shellacking of Florida A&M (23-24). The Gators scored in six of their eight innings at the plate, putting up crooked numbers in all but one of those stanzas.

No. 3 South Florida pulled out a 5-3 win over No. 2 Florida Atlantic despite a pair of errors. The Bulls (33-24) held a 3-2 lead, but a throwing error in the bottom of the third allowed the Owls (40-17) to tie it up. Kevin Merrell drove in two runs, the game-winning run with an RBI double in the fourth.

Baton Rouge Regional

LSU (49-10) is the second overall seed and played like it Friday in a 10-3 win over No. 4 Lehigh (25-29). The Tigers got doubles from Andrew Stevenson, Jake Fraley and Chris Sciambra in the rout of the Patriot League champions.

In the Baton Rouge nightcap, No. 2 UNC-Wilmington had no problem with No. 3 Tulane (34-24). The Seahawks (40-16) cruised to a 10-1 win on the strength of multi-hit games from Zach Shields, Gavin Stupienski, Corey Dick and Luke Dunlap, who went 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Houston Regional

No. 2 Rice (36-20) was playing in its back yard, on the home field of cross-town rival Houston. But the home-field advantage didn't help as the Ragin' Cajuns (40-21) scored five times in the top of the ninth inning and then held off the Owls for a 7-6 win.

As for the host Cougars, Houston (43-18) scored all six of its runs Friday in the third inning of a 6-4 win over Houston Baptist (28-26). Left fielder Corey Julks hit a three-homer in the inning and Houston shortstop Connor Wong finished with three hits.

College Station Regional

No. 1 Texas A&M (46-12) got off to a good start with a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Texas Southern (31-18). Matt Kent struck out nine over seven scoreless innings while scattering six hits.

No. 3 California (34-19) broke its game with No. 2 Coastal Carolina (38-19) open with five runs in the final two innings for a 9-3 win. The Bears capitalized on a pair of Coastal errors, leading three unearned runs.

Forth Worth Regional

No. 2 N.C. State (35-21) got a strong pitching performance from Curt Britt in a 3-0 win over third-seeded Stony Brook (34-15-1). Britt lowered his ERA to 1.93 with 5 1/3 shutout innings.

Host and top seed TCU, the No. 7 overall seed, also recorded a shutout with a 10-0 blanking of Sacred Heart (23-31-1). The Horned Frogs (44-11) got a solid start from Mitchell Traver (seven innings, four hits, seven strikeouts, three walks) and an excellent day at the plate from Cody Jones, who went 2 for 3 with a double and a homer and two walks.

Champaign Regional

Despite losing in the Big Ten tournament, the Illini were given the sixth overall seed for the NCAA tourney. Illinois (48-8-1) used a five-run second inning as the catalyst in a 10-3 thrashing of No. 4 Ohio (36-20). Reid Roper and David Kerian both went yard for the Illini.

Second-seeded Notre Dame (36-21) won a 13-7 slugfest over No. 3 Wright State (41-15). Ryan Bull, Ryan Lidge and Robert Youngdahl all had three hits for the Irish, who pounded out 16 hits, including three home runs.

Nashville Regional

No. 2 Radford (43-15) entered the NCAA Tournament riding a 15-game winning streak, but No. 3 Indiana gave the Big South Conference champs a wakeup call. The Hoosiers, who are in the field for the third straight year, spanked the Highlanders 7-1 as Indiana pitcher Kyle Hart scatted five hits and struck out six in seven innings. Indiana dominated from the start with the Hoosiers turning a triple play in the first inning.

No. 1 Vanderbilt (43-19) looked very comfortable in a 9-1 win over fourth-seeded Lipscomb (39-19). Commodores pitcher Carson Fulmer was rolling with 11 strikeouts over seven innings. Vandy blew open a 3-1 game with five runs in the sixth inning.

Fullerton Regional

No. 2 Arizona State (35-21) rallied with six runs in its final two at-bats for a 7-4 win over No. 3 Clemson (32-28). Tigers pitcher Matthew Crownover was going strong until surrendering three runs in the seventh. He finished with nine strikeouts, but the Sun Devils scored three more in the eighth – punctuated by Trever Allen's two-run triple.

No. 1 Cal State-Fullerton (35-22) had no trouble with Pepperdine, charging past the Waves 9-3. The Titans were aggro in the third, taking advantage of Pepperdine's mullering play. The Waves (30-28) issued three walks, hit a trio of Fullerton batters and committed two errors in the inning. Tanner Pinkston also found the impact zone against the Waves, going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

Louisville Regional

No. 1 Louisville is the third overall seed and handled No. 4 Morehead State 7-2. The tournament's leading hitter, Morehead catcher Chris Robinson, went 1 for 4 to have his average dip to .409. The Cardinals (44-16) led 4-0 after three innings and never looked back. Morehead (39-20) led the nation in scoring and slugging percentage, but was limited to six hits – just one of which was an extra-base hit.

Michigan, under-seeded as a three seed despite winning the Big Ten tournament, easily cruised past No. 2 Bradley (35-20) with a 10-5 win. The Wolverines (38-23) scored four times in the second and twice more in both the fourth and ninth. Catcher Kendall Patrick homered twice and drove in five runs.
