Former Eagles defensive back Nate Allen was accused of masturbating in his vehicle in February but cleared of any wrongdoing a month later. The Florida police who initially detained him were punished for their actions this week.

Fort Myers police chief Doug Baker said his officers failed to properly investigate an accusation of lewd conduct before taking Allen into custody.

'I've been here for 30 years," Baker said Thursday, via the Fort Myers News-Press. "And I don't remember it happening in the past."

Baker added that Allen, 27, "conducted himself well," and the chief extended his "deepest and most sincere apology."

Four officers were penalized while a fifth was exonerated, according to the News-Press.

Officer Gloria Camacho, a seven-year veteran, was ordered to undergo written counseling for failing to check on Allen at least once every thirty minutes.

Sgt. Jacquelyn Garrett, a 16-year veteran of the force, was given a week-long suspension for failing to properly investigate a crime and falsely arresting Allen.

Former Officer Rebecca Milhoan, an eight-year veteran who resigned May 3, received a written reprimand for failing to interpret the Florida statute regarding lewd and lascivious arrest, resulting in Allen's arrest.

Detective Audenia Thomas, a 17-year veteran, was given a three-day suspension for failing to properly investigate when called to assist road patrol.

Allen, who spent five seasons with the Eagles before signing with the Raiders in March, has a press conference scheduled for Friday.
