There is clearly an appetite for baseball in Montreal, at least in small portions. The city's mayor would like to see it grow.

Denis Coderre met with commissioner Rob Manfred in New York on Thursday and told Canadian Press afterward he had asked MLB to hold three or four regular-season games in his city next season.

Coderre added that six or seven teams have expressed an interest in making an appearance in Montreal next year.

Olympic Stadium, home of the Expos until the franchise moved to Washington for the 2005 season, has hosted MLB exhibition games in recent years. A two-game set between the Blue Jays and Reds at the end of spring training this year drew a total attendance of 96,945.

Coderre is an avowed baseball fan; his Twitter profile picture shows him wearing an Expos cap and jersey. His long-range hope is to get an MLB team back in Montreal on a permanent basis.
