The Hot Stove continues to burn even after a mid-December wave of moves.

THE RUMOR: The Yankees have checked in on Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki regarding a possible trade.

REPORTED BY: CBS Sports baseball insider Jon Heyman

THE DETAILS:  While the Mets quietly discussed a Tulowitzki trade  last week, the cross-town rival Yankees have checked in on Tulo about replacing recently acquired defensive specialist Didi Gregorius at shortstop. According to Heyman, Tulowitzki is said to love the idea of going to the Bronx, but the Yankees may not have enough to offer the Rockies, who are inclined to keep the veteran unless they are presented with talent they can't refuse.

LAST SEASON: Tulowitzki hit 21 home runs and posted a .340 batting average and 1.035 OPS in 91 games before he was felled by a hip injury that required surgery.

SN'S TAKE:  The Mets have more players and prospects to entice the Rockies, including right-hander Dillon Gee, shortstops Ruben Tejada and Wilmer Flores, and a handful of talented prospects, but Tulo loves the idea of playing in pinstripes. If the Yankees were to land Tulowitzki they would likely have to give up a combination of Gregorius, Nate Eovaldi, and 20-year-old top pitching prospect Luis Severino. Tulowitzki, 30, is recovering from surgery to repair a tear in a hip labrum. He has played in 150 or more games just twice in his nine-year career, but the high ceiling of the four-time All-Star may be too attractive to ignore.
