MLB trade rumors: O's, Pirates complete deal for Travis Snider

Travis Snider

UPDATE: The teams agreed to a trade Tuesday night. Snider will head to Baltimore in exchange for minor league left-hander Stephen Tarpley and a player to be named, also expected to be a minor leaguer. Tarpley, 21, posted a 3.68 ERA in 66 innings last season for the O's affiliate in the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League.

Throughout the offseason, we will take a look at the hottest news and rumors.

THE RUMOR: The Orioles and Pirates have renewed trade talks involving outfielder Travis Snider.

REPORTED BY: Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun

THE DETAILS: The two teams are discussing a deal that would send two minor leaguers to Pittsburgh for Snider. At least one of the minor leaguers would be a pitcher.

LAST SEASON: The 27 year-old Snider hit .264/.338/.438 with 13 home runs and a career-high 38 RBIs.

SN'S TAKE: The Sun reported in December that the Orioles had preliminary discussions with the Pirates about a Brian Matusz-for-Snider swap but they didn’t get a deal done at the winter meetings. Matusz, a left-handed pitcher, is not included in the deal that was completed, but the report did offer insight into what the Pirates were seeking: a left-handed middle reliever capable of also being a long reliever. Snider, who signed a $2.1 million contract with the Pirates this winter to avoid arbitration, was the No. 4 outfielder for Pittsburgh so the loss is minimal despite the .288/.356/.524 batting line and nine homers he posted in the second half.
