MLB trade rumors: Mets GM shoots down Dillon Gee trade talk

Dillon Gee

Throughout the offseason, we'll keep you updated on the lastest news and rumors.

THE RUMOR: Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters Monday night that it is “fair to say” he’s had little-to no recent trade talks surrounding Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee.

REPORTED BY: NBC Sports

THE DETAILS: A major trade rumor made its rounds this weekend that involved Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar in exchange for Gee, but Alderson put those talks to sleep on Monday. It was reported that the Mets were pursuing possible suitors for Gee in December with the Rangers and Royals involved but it appears that Gee will be starting the season in New York.

LAST SEASON: Gee, 29, held a 4.00 ERA with a 94/43 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings.

SN'S TAKE: At the MLB Winter Meetings, it was reported that the Mets are looking to for an upgrade from shortstop Wilmer Flores and are seeking to add a left-handed reliever and a right-handed bench bat this offseason. Profar, 21, was regarded as the top minor league prospect before he was called up in 2013 but will have missed the previous two seasons due to injuries. Profar is career .231/.301/.343 hitter with seven home runs and 28 RBIs in limited action for the Rangers. Gee is an impending free agent and will likely be the odd man out in a young and talented Mets rotation. Expect him to be dealt by the trade deadline.
